Lets try a distinctive tuning in the key of D. Start at the low six string on your guitar and tune it to D, then the 5th string to A, then D, G, A, and D. An electronic Chromatic Tuner works good for this! Also, recall that Standard Tuning is E, A, D, G, B, E. So if your guitar is already in Standard Tuning, just tune down the two E strings to D and then tune down the B string to A. The other three strings are still in Standard Tuning. Once again, the pattern is:

D, A, D, G, A, D. (Dsus4 Tuning)***

Now go to the section Chord Progressions and try out the chords. In additon, try out the other DADGAD sections! Play the Classical  Exercise too -- Enjoy!

***Many Artist have recorded in this tuning -- For example: Listen to Jimmy Page's (Led Zeppelin) songs "Black Mountain Side" and "Kashmir." I also recommend that you listen to a song by London’s famed Nick Harper called “Caterpillar on a Cocoa Leaf.” Nick uses a variety of Alternative Tunings. In this particular song he changes his tuning in mid song to D suspended 4th. It is a must to hear!

This CD (Key 11B) represents many things, but mostly the nurturing love that music can inspire. Each song is a reflection of love and passion – each song will inspire and nurture the listener in their own personal love walk. The melodies will speak to the mind, the rhythms will speak to the body, and the harmonies will speak to the soul. Nine songs, including: Romance de Amor, Mood for a Day, My Rumba, Waves of Love (Piano), and Spanish Melodies. (Click CD picture above for more information).
